8 random things

Chris from Methed Up tagged me with the meme of 8 random things, with the following rules:
"1. Each player must post these rules first.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog."
I'm leaving out 4 and 5... but here's #2.
1. My first language was Portuguese (but I stopped speaking it shortly thereafter, when my family moved back to the United States).
2. My college mascot was the Banana Slug.
3. Two of my favorite college classes: "Architecture of the Suburbs" and "Anthropology of Dance."
4. I am one of the two oldest people in my intern class, just as I was one of the two oldest people in my medical school class.
5. 44% of the kids who were in 9th grade with me dropped out by the time I graduated from high school. But none of my friends were among them.
6. My first career ambition (at age 4): to be a paramedic.
7. I'm a huge fan of pinnipeds.
8. I have started to think that I have become much more introverted than I once was, or perhaps I'm just realizing I was never as extroverted as I thought I was; either way, this is some part of the explanation for why I am not tagging eight other bloggers with this meme.

Thanks for playing - of the people I tagged you were 1) the one I felt most guilty for tagging, 2) the one I thought would be most likely to ignore it and 3) the one I wouldn't have been the least bit disappointed if you did choose to ignore it. I'm sure your up to your armpits in stuff you'd rather be doing.
Funny, for me, what I wanted to be when I grew up (an EMT, a fireman, a cop) turned into who I wanted to do in adolescence. As I approach middle age that same list has been retitled 'who I want to avoid.'
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Tomatoes are beginning to ripen. I'll send you a pic of my first fruits soon!
I will bite. 1.I was the third oldest person in my medical school class. 2. My favorite color is green just like the grass. 3. I wanted to be a biologist when I grew up. I became a biochemist first. 4. I was the biggest rebel in my primary and secondary school. I was voted most likely to become incarcerated by age 30. I was jailed for participating in a protest against CIA involvement in the overthrow of the government of Chile back in the 1970s. I was a very young rebel. 5. I i wanted to become a pilot by the time I was 30 but that didn't happen until I was older. 6. My favorite food is spinach because it is green. 7. I play any kind of wind instrument (flute, clarinet, sax, oboe). 8. I love to sit by a body of water (Potomac River) and count the clouds as they go by.
