Maybe the fleece is most appealing where the power relationships are intact but fuzzy around the edges.

Perhaps in the business world as well as the medical world, the fleece also has something of an equalizing effect: the CEO, the middle managers and the tech support staff can all wear them. The wrinkle is if your fleece says "Senior Management Team" or something. But my observation is that fleeces usually do cut across hierarchy to a degree--which is part of their factory floor appeal, I think.

We all want to be part of the team, but part of what that means is believing that everyone on the team is valued. If there are different outfits for different team members then there are clearly different roles for each... and the immediate implication of different levels of social power.Joe Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00869712616542504302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168082693469796351.post-15624372592840189692007-04-12T13:24:00.000-04:002007-04-12T13:24:00.000-04:00Here's an alternative idea about the fleece in the...Here's an alternative idea about the fleece in the more senior residents...
In the programs where senior residents are made to wear short coats -- therefore reminding them of their continued diminutive rank in the system or whatever historical precedent you wish to call on -- the fleece is the liberator! It is the anti-short white coat. But it still provides the appropriate professional designations. How many programs that use long white coats also have fleeces or a high rate of fleece acceptance? I wonder...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
